Returning to the moon to gain soft political power
If China is the first country back to the moon in this century, it will not matter that America landed a man on the moon 50 years ago. The world will see that the country that landed there no longer exists and that the future belongs to China, with its science fiction, dystopian social credit system and its imperialist ambitions. Thus, Pence was right to throw down a new challenge, to confirm the verdict of Apollo, that the United States and her allies own the future and not the latest tyranny to trouble the peace of the world.

Returning to the moon for rocket fuel and clean energy
Before the first Apollo missions, the moon was thought to be a bone-dry, rocky world of interest to geologists and few others. However, the Apollo lunar samples, as well as decades of remote sensing missions, suggest that Earth’s nearest neighbor has abundant natural resources. These resources will not only facilitate the building of lunar settlements but might fuel a space-based industrial revolution.

ISRAEL’S BERESHEET HAS FALLEN, BUT BERESHEET 2 IS COMING
Rocket science has become a synonym for something that is incredibly hard to do for good reasons. However, the phrase can also mean heartbreak, as the SpaceIL team discovered when their Beresheet moon probe crashed on the lunar surface last week. Going back to the moon for science
From the perspective of doing science, going back to the moon is a no brainer. The United States is a country that values basic science research, partly out of the principle that knowledge is better than ignorance, and partly because basic research often pays dividends in unexpected ways. The Apollo geology samples are still yielding secrets, decades after they were brought back to Earth, as analytical tools advance.
WHY DON’T DEMOCRATS WANT AMERICA TO RETURN TO THE MOON?
Recently, NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine testified before the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology. His testimony took place soon after Vice President Mike Pence announced that the date of the next moon landing was being brought forward to 2024, just five years from now. The committee’s chair, Democratic Texas Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson, took a decidedly dim view of the new moon program. in her opening statement.

Can America return to the moon by 2024?
At the most recent meeting of the National Space Council, held at NASA’s Marshal Spaceflight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, Vice President Mike Pence ordered NASA to get American moon boots on the lunar surface by 2024, by any means necessary. The challenge, and NASA’s response, has created a curious situation fraught with both technical and political peril.
