Recently, NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine testified before the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology. His testimony took place soon after Vice President Mike Pence announced that the date of the next moon landing was being brought forward to 2024, just five years from now. The committee’s chair, Democratic Texas Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson, took a decidedly dim view of the new moon program. in her opening statement.

At the most recent meeting of the National Space Council, held at NASA’s Marshal Spaceflight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, Vice President Mike Pence ordered NASA to get American moon boots on the lunar surface by 2024, by any means necessary. The challenge, and NASA’s response, has created a curious situation fraught with both technical and political peril.

Natalie Portman as a female astronaut who, having returned from a long-duration space mission, loses her mind, has an unwise affair with a fellow NASA astronaut, played by Jon Hamm, and destroys her family. The movie is loosely based on the story of Lisa Nowak. Both facts concerning the movie make it problematic.
