Study: Julius Caesar may have suffered from mini-stokes and not epilepsy

The commonly accepted history relates that Caius Julius Caesar, the great Roman soldier and politician, suffered from epilepsy, a condition that causes repeated seizures. The condition was considered, in ancient times, to be a sign of divinity. However, a Wednesday story in Phys.org cites a new study that suggests that Caesar suffered from repeated mini strokes, caused by a temporary interruption of blood flow to the brain.

Five years ago today, Obama crippled NASA space exploration

Five years ago today, on April 15, 2010, President Barack Obama ventured to the Kennedy Space Center and crippled NASA’s space program for the rest of his presidency. Two different views of the event were published Wednesday. Stephen Smith, a space blogger who supports the president’s approach to government funded commercial space projects and labels what was left of NASA’s space exploration program as “pork” is still supportive of the policy measures that Obama rolled out. Laura Seward believed that the speech was a disaster then and is still one now, though she sees hope for the future.

Sarah Palin gets an apology from a TV star (no not that one)

There is something about Sarah Palin that brings out the worse in some people. She is a former governor of Alaska, former vice presidential candidate, current media star and, despite Hillary Clinton’s pretensions to the contrary, still the most powerful female politician on the planet. She has caused inadequate men and jealous women on the left to heap upon her the most vile names and slanders that can be imagined. However, for apparently the first time, Palin has gotten an apology, according to a Wednesday story in the Blaze.

Al Sharpton 'hunger strike' to confirm Loretta Lynch faces mockery

According to a Wednesday story in Politico, a ground of female civil rights leaders led by Al Sharpton have declared that they would go on a hunger strike – of a sort – to try to compel Republican Senate leaders to confirm Loretta Lynch, President Obama’s choice to replace Eric Holder as Attorney General. The Lynch confirmation has been held up because of concerns over whether she would enforce the law when it is inconvenient for the Obama administration and as a way to pressure Democrats to stop stalling a bill dealing with human trafficking.

The FX Network has been teasing all season about the final confrontation between Raylan, Boyd, and Ava, with the question of who gets out of Harlan County alive. While there are some violent deaths, the show sprung a surprise on the loyal viewers.

SpaceX Falcon 9 launch successful, landing attempt not so much

As the Verge reported on Tuesday, the launch of the sixth cargo mission of the SpaceX Falcon 9 to the International Space Station was a complete success. The Dragon cargo ship is due to arrive at the International Space Station, carrying supplies that include a special Italian-made espresso machine and an experimental satellite from Planetary Resources that will test technologies for asteroid hunting telescopes. The attempting landing of the first stage of the Falcon 9 on a barge nu was not quite as successful, however, with the rocket coming in just a little too hard and falling over when it touched down.

Report: ISIS has a camp in Mexico to launch attacks on the United States

Breitbart reported on Monday that ISIS, the terrorist army that has overrun parts of Northern Iraq and Syria, has released a video threatening a 9/11 style attack on the American homeland. A report by Judicial Watch suggests that the threat is far more real than has been imagined at first glance. According to unnamed sources in the Mexican military and federal police, ISIS has established a camp in Mexico just eight miles from the southern border near El Paso.

United Launch Alliance rolls out the Vulcan rocket

The space race of the 1960s proved that competition drives innovation. The new space race of the 2010s, now between private sector companies rather than nation states, is proving much the same thing. On Monday, the same day that the launch and then landing of SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket was scrubbed due to weather, the United Launch Alliance, a partnership between Boeing and Lockheed Martin, announced its new rocket, the Vulcan. The rocket is scheduled to launch in 2019.

Marco Rubio tells Hillary Clinton, ' Yesterday is over'

The New York Times reported on Monday that Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Florida, became the third Republican to announce for president. While the Times downplayed his chances of winning, he made what most concede to be an impressive speech. He spoke to a cheering crowd and presented himself as the candidate for the future. He also had some snarky things to say about a certain candidate from “yesterday.”

Hillary Clinton walked into a Chipotle, ignored everyone, was recognized by none

The day after rolling out her second campaign for the presidency, Hillary Clinton proceeded down the road from New York to Iowa in a van dubbed “Scooby.” Monday, according to Breitbart, she stopped by a Chipotle in Ohio where she ignored everyone, and no one recognized her. The incident astonished Hot Air’s Mary Katherine Ham, who wondered what was going on when a presidential candidate shows up in a public place where actual voters hang out, and she does not interact with them. She has some theories, none of them flattering to the once and future inevitable president to be.

Italian espresso machine headed to NASA's International Space Station

The era when astronauts had to eat food out of a squeezable plastic tube has long been part of history. Crews on the International Space Station enjoy relatively sumptuous meals, designed for nutrition and consumption in microgravity. Indeed, the ISS crew once enjoyed meals designed by celebrity chef and television personality Emeril Lagasse. According to a Monday story in Florida Today, the space station crew is about to get its own espresso machine, made in Italy and designed for use in microgravity.

Quite a number of people who desire to become president are trying to show that they are “ready for Hillary” after the former secretary of state formally announced her long anticipated run for the Oval Office. As the New York Times noted on Sunday, Hillary Clinton, former first lady, former senator, and former secretary of state has finally made it official. European Space Agency invited to contribute a lander to NASA's Europa Clipper

According to a Friday story in Spaceflight Now, NASA has invited the European Space Agency to participate in its upcoming Europa Clipper project. Europa Clipper, pushed by Rep. John Culberson, the chair of the House Appropriations subcommittee that oversees NASA, recently received backing from the Obama administration. Europa Clipper would launch in the early 2020s and would be placed in an orbit around Jupiter that would cause it to fly by Europa, a moon of Jupiter, at least 45 times during its operational life.

Ron Paul makes trouble for Rand Paul over Iranian nuclear weapons

Sen. Rand Paul’s campaign for the presidency is not more than a few days old and already his mercurial father, former Rep. Ron Paul, himself a former presidential candidate, is starting to make trouble for his son. According to a Saturday story in the Houston Chronicle, the elder Paul called the famous letter that 47 Republican senators, including the younger Paul, sent to the Iranian mullahs “a joke.” The letter informed the Iranian leadership that any agreement that they reached with President Obama concerning Iran’s nuclear bomb program would not outlast the Obama presidency lacking congressional ratification.

What will Hillary Clinton's space policy be and will Lori Garver be involved?

With Hillary Clinton scheduled to announce for president on Sunday, as the New York Times reported Friday, a no doubt burning question comes to mind. What would be the space policy of a hypothetical second Clinton presidency? A President Hillary Clinton would inherit a huge mess at NASA, ironically made, in large part, by a woman who was her space policy adviser in 2008, Lori Garver, former Deputy Administrator of NASA. Garver had neatly transitioned to be then candidate Obama’s space policy adviser when Clinton’s 2008 campaign collapsed.

'Doonesbury's' Gary Trudeau attacks Charlie Hebdo for 'hate speech

One would think that a venerable and iconic cartoonist such as Gary Trudeau, the purveyor of “Doonesbury,” would express some solidarity for the Charlie Hebdo cartoonists who were recently gunned down by Islamists terrorists. But, if one understands the Friday story in the Huffington Post, one would be wrong. Trudeau not only seemed to blame the victims by accusing them of “hate speech” but actually suggested that there are limits to free speech.
